With all the rain falling recently it was worth a second visit to the Elan valley and marvel at teh water falling over the dams.
Sue and I drove over to the visitors centre with an idea of walking up to the dam then around to the road climbing up to the top. From there continuing along the edge of the lake to the dam and bridge at the edge of Garreg Ddu reservoir, and the church. Finally returning to the visitors centre, to pick up the can and drive around the lakes back to Rhayader.
After parking and paying the fee we set off to the bottom of the dam and the water falling. Across the bridge to the far bank.
Along the forest bathing path down to Elan village, to the eastern end.
Over the footbridge to the B4518 below the water works. As we crossed a low flying Atlas C1, passed over us and off to the dam.
Climbing the Elan valley trail, up beside the road above the visitors centre.
Flattening out as it approached the dam.
Looking over the am and the calm reservoir.
Continuing along the trail beside the reservoir, with a reflection of the mountains.
Approaching the bridge/ dam at the junction of reservoirs - the dam is below the bridge. The church on the far side was build to replace one flooded.
Closer look at the bridge and the tower behind.
Across the bridge and looking back across the Caban Coch reservoir and down to the dam.
Returning along the trail to the top of Caban Coch dam.
We dropped down tot eh visitors centre on a steeper more direct path than down the road.
After lunch we drove around the "mountain road" linking the four reservoirs on this end of the valley - Caban Coch, Garreg Ddu, Penygarreg, and Craig Goch. We should walk along these at some time.
