Garth, Builth Wells

Sue and Steph were off to the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth, so I tagged along for a ride. My idea was to wander up Garth - a hill overlooking the town, then back down for some lunch. Unfortunately the weather was not very kind today and I spent all day in wet weather gear.

After leaving the others I crossed over the river and into the edge of town, skirting around the ruined castle and up Newry road.
Leaving the town the road got very narrow and climbed gradually above Newry farm.
Past Sunnybank to a point where the road took a sharp turn. Here I left the road and crossed a stile into sheep fields.
Through the fields along the ridge to the summit ahead. Into the open access area - marked by bracken swathes.
The tops kept rising as I crossed each false summit.
Finally the top (with trig point), and looking back down behind me where I had come up.
Looking down on a misty Wye valley.
Back down through the fields to the road, where I continued along it a bit further to Maes-y-cwm, where I picked up a footpath through a horse field (locked gate to the road).
The path led down through the fields to a lower valley, then up the other side.
Reaching the B4520 and following it back down into Builth
A brief stop in the bakery to pick up some lunch then continuing on to go back over the river and aroudn the A470 to the entrance to the showground. Then navigating around all the parked cars to find the right place and wait to be collected.
