Dinner Hunt, Canterbury

The journey down was un eventful if you discounted the queues that chewed up the M3 then M25, and finally the M20, adding around an hour to the journey, so I arrived in Canterbury just in time for the end of school day, so the roads were all clogged up.

The day had started off sunny in Herefordshire, and I flirted with the rain all the way down, however once at the campsite it was more blustery than wet. After setting up the van I headed back down into Canterbury for some supplies for the next few days, and also to truffle out some dinner.

South East weekend visit

There is a conflagration of things that I have been invited to, down in the South East this weekend, so I tied them all up in a trip. The idea was to take the van down and make use of a couple of C&C sites, first at Canterbury - we had been there last year so knew how to get around, and then Chertsey - new to me.

I would start by travelling down to Canterbury, then catch the train the following day to Wye for the AAC walk, before returning to Canterbury - then I did not have to find a place to park the van during the day.

Sunday, I would go over to Chertsey, via the bagpipe band practice at Gatwick, ready for the BOC retirees walk on Monday. Using the same double night trick to have somewhere to park the van before returning home early on Tuesday.

Clee Hill Circular

After several days of rain and with Storm Austen coming tomorrow, I chose to go out today, and to go somewhere that I did not think would be too wet. I chose to explore the area of Clee Hill which has many walking routes in the books - I picked the Kittiwake one to base my day on.

The day would start at the village of Clee Hill where I knew there were numerous parking area, then climb up beside the currently operating quarry towards Random farm. Skirting around the farm in the open access area and down the far side to Cleeton St. Mary. Along Jack Mytton way until it meets the Shropshire Way, and follow this back to the top of Clee Hill beside the radar station. Down the Titterstone Incline before contouring around to Dhustone village. Finally along the old railway track bed back to Clee Hill village.

Offa's Dyke Path, Hay & Cusop Dingle

The sun was shining over clear skies, so I decided to go out again after yesterday's local walk, only this time I would look to go into Bannau Brycheiniog.
I would combine routes for the Kittiwake books covering routes from Hay-on-Wye. Up Offa's Dyke to the car park below Hay Bluff, then along the three rivers ride to New House wood, finally back along the river forming Cusop Dingle.

Weobley & Dilwyn Explorer

Sue was away with Steph at a Wool show, so I came up with a combination of walks from the Weobley Walks book. Starting from home, I aimed to follow the large circle route around Sandersfield to the junction of A4112 and B4230 to Weobley, however rather than going to Weobley I would follow the back road to the Hurst, and then back to the A4112. Another loop through the Haven and down to Dilwyn.
Through the village and along the back road out to Field's Place. Onto the bridle way back to Weobley. Once there through the housing estates to the surgery, and back to the central square.
Out to the Ley, and on to Fenhampton wood. From there I planned to follow the permissive route down to Eccles Green now that the shortcut through Hyatt Sarnesfield is closed off.
Finally back home on the usual route back home from there.
