This year, everything was compressed by work and band commitments, and we ended up squeezed between Easter and May day. When this was coupled with the poor year for snow, and early closure of ski resorts, we knew we had to go relatively high.
I had been translating routes from the "white" book for Haute Valais, and we had been there previously so a logical place seemed to be the Simplon Pass. Bryon booked us into the Hospis on the pass for 3 nights, (it was full the last time we had been in the area) we just had to get there.
We set off after lunch on Easter Sunday and picked up a ferry at Dover.
By the time we reached the fuel stop at Reims it was late. We had not reserved a room as we were not sure where we would get to. The Reims F1 was full, but checking the app showed plenty of space at
Châlons-en-Champagne. Arriving after midnight we crashed, and slept through.

Monday was a day of driving, direct through Besançon, and Pontarlier to the border and down to Lake Geneva, around the north shore and down to the Rhone.
Along to Brig and up to the pass, where we arrived for afternoon check in.
However first a chance to stretch the legs and wander around the triangle. The first opportunity to see the snow cover.
We had a triple room to ourselves, with the bathroom down the corridor. Plenty of space for us, and a view of the car park.
This was one of the places we had looked at last time .. quiet and serene place to stay, and relatively cheap ... but dependent on the other guests as usual .. on the third night this was spoilt by un-managed children running riot in the corridors. ADHD can be blamed for many things!
