Snaefell, Isle of Man

Today we went off to the highest point on the island ,,, the road from the back of the campsite rose up through the central hills to meet the main north/ south road at a place called the bungalow.

We parked up as a train arrived at the station .. and set off up the local path.
We reached the first fold in the landscape when this train arrived at the top station.
Continuing upwards we arrived at the summit steep section as the train started back down again.
Cutting left from here (away from the main path) enabled us to avoid the steepest part and follow the left ridge to the top.
The summit station was a simple concrete structure (similar to the one on the top of Snowdon), with two antennae with associated control buildings..
On top was a simple trig point, and a map table showing the coast of Ireland, Scotland , wales and England.
the view north and south

From the top ... clearly the mountains of the lakes in the distance, and also the reservoir below.
We evacuated the top when a "Special" train .. looked like a load of coach trippers ... arrived.
Then we headed back to the van ... down the track.
Back at the van the day was heating up, but we needed to go and find somewhere for lunch (as well as resupply the snack stocks).
There was a walk just down from Ramsey that would fit the bill.
