Spring time, Bryon and I were off for our annual trip to the mountains, this time we were heading back to Vorarlberg in Austria starting in the same place we finished in last year.
Bryon picked me up before midday and we headed off to Dover for a mid afternoon ferry. Our ferry was delayed, but so was the one earlier, and we effectively left on time, heading for Metz and a room in the Ibis Budget hotel.
Next day we drove on to Tschagguns, via the Bodensee .. relative problem free, apart from getting lost in Strasbourg, due to a satnav issue .. we were booked into the Pension Golm, where we stayed last year.
This time we had the middle studio ... very much the same as the left hand one we had last year, but a mirror image.
After checking in, paying up and moving all our bags and stuff in we had the rest of the afternoon to recover from the drive.
We had also stopped at the supermarket on the way up the valley to pick up food supplies, we took the opportunity to reacquaint ourselves with a wonderful place we discovered last year ... the Mangold bakery where we could not resist a coffee and a pastry.
We went for a walk up to the ski resort, so we could check out the conditions and remind our selves where everything was.
There was a thin layer of fresh snow on the ground, and the sun was shining, although there was also a bitter wind blowing.
The hydro plant we generating by the fact water was flowing into the lagoon.
We continued up the road towards the track up the valley, before we got distracted by a side road up the mountain besides the ski lift. This not only gave us views down into the valley, but also across to the Mittagspitze which we could not attempt last year, and the main reason for the return trip
The Mittagspitze had seen a lot of visitors even in the fresh snow.
Walking back the way we had come up also showed us views of Wannakopf which was showing a distinct lack of snow, compared to last year.
Dinner was a pizza in the same place as last year. Pizzeria Casa Mia
