Finally after all the turbulence pf the last few years we were off on a family ski trip to France. Beaufort was the intended destination and I had found a large apartment in the village, twice the size of the ones near the ski slopes. The arrangement was for Steph to come down to us on Thursday night (after work) and together we would set off early on Friday for Dover and a ferry to Calais. We would travel down during the day and stay overnight at an Accor Budget hotel before continuing to Beaufort on Saturday morning. This way there would be no issues if there was any unexpected holdups.
Once there we made the most of the local resorts travelling most days.
The return would be a repeat of the outward journey, however as we had no time pressures we would complete in one straight run. The only change was our return ferry was from Dunkerque rather than Calais as DFDS did not have enough options from Calais due to the winter timetable (we avoided P&O as a protest at their handling of workers last year!).
The trip started with warm late spring conditions in the valleys, however with a strong and biting wind on the tops then we had two days of massive snow dumps, followed by much lower temperatures creating over a meter of fresh powder. The wind and the avalanche risk moderated what we did, however the fresh snow opened lots of opportunities.
