I chose to drop over the hill in front of the barn and down to the end of Lake Windermere at Lakeside. Then along the rail line to Newby Bridge, before returning back over the hill to Finsthwaite.
From the barn and along to the church, before following the path past the church hall.
Through the sheep fields and into the open access area beyond. This is Great Knott Wood.
Following the forestry track climbing up to the ridge line with several zigzags.
I noticed the path leaving to the Summer House Knott tower for future reference.
Over the ridge and remaining on the forestry road steeply down the far side with views of Lake Windermere.
Leaving the road to follow a path down out of the woods.
At the bottom the path curved around to the back road. My route would continue across this, however I chose to divert to Lakeside to checkout the times for the ferry and also the trains.
At the lakeside car park lookign up the lake and also across to Fell Foot on the far side.
I had noticed a path sign down the side of the aquarium, and along the rial track. This was a permissive path.
The path followed the edge of the train tracks until it could cut over to the bridle path going to Newby Bridge.
Along the gravel path that undulated through the fields beside the train tracks. It then crossed over and followed the river Leven
Arriving at the moorings and hotel at Newby Bridge, before going around the buildings and back over the train tracks.
Now up the driveway on the far side.
The path started to climb back up the ridge, but thankfully not as steep as the earlier descent.
Over the ridge and into pastures heading back to the village of Finsthwaite. One was a little boggy, but this could be bypassed beside the wall edge.
Through the final couple of fields to the village, back at the church and down the lane to the barn.
