Summer Alpine Trip, Italy

Dave was off with Alan on their "Grand Tour", and Bryon and Chris were in the Swiss alps, I was back With Don, and a new  recruit to the alpine ranks, Gordon.
This year I had an idea to go to the Italian side of the Vallais alps. the main aim was to start at the Monte Rosa end and work down the frontier ridge to the West.

To start off we drove to a small town called Alagna, at the end of a long road into the foothills, via the Mont Blanc tunnel.

This town was generally a stopping point for Ski and mountain climbers. The campsite was slightly up the valley and we got a prime slot next to the cess pit ...  need to brush up on my Italian

We would stay here for a few days using the Gnifetti hut as a base while climbing the nearby mountains. From here we would move west.  As it turned out we gave up on Italy and moved into Switzerland, first to the area we had investigated a couple of years ago, at Saas, and then reconnoitre the Arolla area.
