Alpine Spring Tour, Switzerland

For our 2010 trip, Bryon and I would be accompanied by Chris and M-J .. Chris had stopped coming with us a few years ago, and for M-J it had been a long time, except the occasional Xmas day. Bryon and I wanted too go back to the Bernese Alps, but first we chose the Grand St Bernard valley, where we had been the year before for a few days exploration.

We set off in two separate cars, Bryon and I were headed for a F1 hotel and an overnight stay, before heading over the Swiss border at Pontallier. By chance we met up with Chris and M-J just before the border, and travelled in convoy around the Swiss motorways to Martigny, and then up the valley towards Orcieres.

We had thought to stay in an Auberge we had used last year, but when we got there, it was full, and we asked if they knew anywhere else ... They sent us on to L'Union in Orcieres...  This was quite hard to find as it was just off the main square. Here we got a great welcome and there a few rooms available -  there was massive disruption from the volcano eruption in Iceland that had caused many flights to be cancelled, for the weeks before.

Our room looked over the back to the station and the road up to Champex, and brought memories of the descent several years before.
