We spent a few days with Steph in Newbridge before heading out. We had an appointment at a campsite near Oxenhope for Tuesday so that Danny could give the van a once over and perform a habitation check. We had some credit at a campsite on the Herefordshire/ Welsh border near Pembridge at a farm called the Leen.
The campsite was a nice flat field next to the river Arrow, and down some farm lanes.Up beside the farm was an old waterwheel, and several hundred cows would move aroudn the lanes each day, so we had to avoid those times, otherwise everything was really quiet.
The nearest Pubs were in Pembridge, but we only tried the New Inn as this served good food and was very comfortable.
Using this as a base we made several trips out
The nearest pub was along the moor - the Dog and Gun provided a good atmosphere, and wasn't crowded.- Day 1 - Settling in followed by a Food Hunt, Pembridge
- Day 2 - We went sightseeing to Dolforwyn Castel and Welshpool railway and a repeat visit on a Food Hunt2, Pembridge
- Day 3 - two walks separated by a Sunday roast dinner Croft Castle Parkland Walk and Berrington Hall Parkland Walk.
After three nights here we moved on, crossing the country to get to a
campsite in Yorkshire close to Halifax and Bradford, but up in the moors.
The Upwood park campsite was a much more organised and laid out site with a large number of fixed units and a few touring slots at the back. Everyone had their alloted manicured space, and there was a huge toilet block. In addition the gate was keycoded (as were the facilities) so you had to carry the key everywhere.
Although we were predominately here for the "Hab" check, we did make some outings
- Day 4 - Settling in followed by a Food Hunt, Oxenhope
- Day 5 - Whilst the "Hab" check was under way we caught a lift down to Haworth then walked back as a Return from Haworth, then after lunch I went for a walk around the skyline Oxenhope Moor Circuit, before we finally ended the day on the Food Hunt 2, Oxenhope
- Day 6 - we returned home after a trip on the worth valley steam train.
